Nestled within the scenic confines of Gaiser Park in Seymour, Indiana, Schurman-Grubb Memorial Skatepark stands as a lasting tribute to two passionate skateboarders, Todd Schurman and Zach Grubb. This concrete park, featuring a ¾ bowl, hips, ledges, rails, quarter pipes, and more, offers an exciting playground for skateboarders, bikers, scooters, and rollerbladers alike.
Named in honor of Todd Schurman and Zach Grubb, who tragically lost their lives in a biking accident, Schurman-Grubb Memorial Skatepark represents their enduring love for skateboarding. Despite the tragic loss, their advocacy for the park lives on, providing a vibrant space for the community to come together and celebrate their passion for the sport.
The skatepark's construction unfolded in phases, reflecting budget constraints and a commitment to realizing the vision of Schurman and Grubb. In 2012, Hardcore Shotcrete, a division of American Ramp Company, laid the foundation for the park's design. Subsequent phases, including the 2nd phase in Fall 2015 and the final phase in 2020 with Hunger Design Adjustments, added to the park's features, culminating in a comprehensive skating experience for enthusiasts of all levels.
Beyond its recreational offerings, Schurman-Grubb Memorial Skatepark serves as a focal point for community engagement. Each year, during the Seymour Oktoberfest, the park hosts an annual game of S.K.A.T.E., bringing together skaters of all ages and skill levels for friendly competition and camaraderie. The park's inclusive atmosphere fosters a sense of belonging and unity among skating enthusiasts, honoring the legacy of Schurman and Grubb.
Free to use and open daily from 8 am to 10 pm, Schurman-Grubb Memorial Skatepark welcomes skaters of all backgrounds and abilities. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a novice eager to learn, the park offers a safe and inviting space to hone your skills, make new friends, and pay tribute to the enduring spirit of Todd Schurman and Zach Grubb.
Schurman-Grubb Memorial Skatepark stands as more than just a recreational facility—it's a testament to the enduring passion and legacy of two skateboarding pioneers. With its phased construction, community engagement initiatives, and inclusive design, the park embodies the spirit of camaraderie, dedication, and love for skateboarding that Schurman and Grubb exemplified. As skaters of all ages continue to enjoy the park's amenities, they honor the memory of these two beloved members of the Seymour community, ensuring that their legacy lives on for generations to come.
