Located in Columbus, Indiana, the Jolie Crider Memorial Skatepark stands as a testament to the fusion of artistry and functionality in skatepark design. Created by Finnish landscape architect and former professional skater Janne Saario, this skatepark opened its doors in mid-September, offering riders a and engaging space to practice their skills. Situated near Mitchell Giurgola Architects’ 1972 Columbus East High School, the skatepark serves as a bridge between the city’s rich architectural history and its vibrant skateboarding culture.
The Jolie Crider Memorial Skatepark has a array of features meticulously made to cater to riders of all skill levels and styles. Built in 2019 by Hunger Skateparks in collaboration with Janne Saario, the park showcases a variety of obstacles including a spine, hubba, curb, roll-in, jump box, quarterpipe, funbox, pole, manualpad, handrail, flatrail, ledge, bank, bowl, and more. These features provide skaters with endless opportunities for creativity and skill development, giving an environment conducive to progression and expression.
To ensure a safe and awesome experience for all skaters, the Jolie Crider Memorial Skatepark maintains a set of rules and guidelines. These include restrictions on motorized vehicles, the use of metal pegs on bicycles or scooters, and the requirement of safety equipment such as helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards. Additionally, riders are encouraged to ride within their abilities, be courteous to others, refrain from unnecessary waxing, and avoid bringing food, drink, smoking, alcohol, or drugs into the riding area. Furthermore, activities such as littering, graffiti, tagging, and sticker placement are strictly prohibited, and spectators are required to remain in designated areas away from the skatepark structure.
