But like many older parks, time has caught up with it. These days, younger skaters are chasing mellower street features with smoother lines and a more open-flow layout, and Sunbury’s current design feels a little dated in comparison.
The good news? A major upgrade is on the horizon. Thanks to the powerhouse collaboration between Playce and Baseplate—two of the best in the game when it comes to skatepark design—Sunbury is set to become one of the standout skateparks in Melbourne. The proposal promises a modernized layout with a fresh balance of street and transition, tuned to the way skaters actually ride today. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you’ll find the design plans already in the works, and they’re looking seriously exciting.
Until the rebuild happens, the existing park is still here and ready to session. It might not have the newest features, but it still delivers for those willing to get creative. Whether you’re looking to warm up, practice basics, or just cruise with your crew, Sunbury’s current setup still holds its own as a local staple.
