Description
Established in 1989, the East Side Recreation (Rec) Skatepark stands as the oldest municipal skatepark in New York state. Collaborating with Jah Skate Shop, which operated nearby from 1988 to 1993, the skatepark holds a rich history of hosting demos, nurturing professional skaters, and giving the formation of a notable skate crew within the cultural underground. Over the years, the skatepark has gained significant respect, becoming a crucial part of East Coast skateboarding history and growing in popularity alongside the surge in skateboarding and other wheeled sports.
Constructed entirely from metal, the skatepark provides a unique environment for riders to hone their skills. The park’s popularity is attributed to its reputation as a genuinely awesome space for learning tricks, catering to various wheeled sports enthusiasts, including bikes, scooters, and, notably, skateboards. The presence of supportive individuals adds to the positive atmosphere, particularly in assisting younger riders in their progression.
Open every day from 7:30 am to 9 pm, the skatepark is accessible to all and offers free usage. It is a beloved and vibrant place in the skateboarding world, as evidenced by its longevity and ongoing significance.
