Pier 62 Skatepark, situated in Hudson River Park, emerges as a prominent destination for skateboarders, offering both a vast expanse and a variety of features. Erected on a marine platform utilizing structural foam, the park spans an impressive 15,000 square feet. It makes it one of the largest skateparks in the area.
Open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk, Pier 62 Skatepark welcomes skaters of all levels to its California-style design, featuring an ovular shape with “natural” curves. This publicly owned facility marks a significant milestone as the first modern, full-sized vert concrete transition skatepark in New York City. Built on a marine platform with sculpted shapes created by structural foam, the park presents unique challenges for street skaters and vert enthusiasts alike.
Key features of the skatepark include a 5 ft spine, a Beginner Ollie Zone with a 4 ft quarter, 2 ft wedge, and 3 ft start box, as well as an Intermediate Fun Box boasting a 24 ft ledge, kinked flat rail, and an 18 ft ollie ledge. These ramps cater to skaters who appreciate halfpipes, rails, and ramps. It makes it an ideal space for both beginners and experts. Safety is emphasized with the encouragement of helmets and additional padding, although the park operates on an unsupervised basis.
Notably, the park is situated on Pier 62, where Chelsea Piers once operated a skating rink and skatepark, adding to its rich skating history. Pier 62 Skatepark’s popularity stems from its scenic location within Hudson River Park and its commitment to providing a unique and an awesome skateboard session.
Admission is free, allowing skaters to test their skills in a spacious and environment. Whether you are a new skater or an experienced enthusiast, Pier 62 Skatepark stands as a perfect spot for those who love to ride the concrete waves against the backdrop of the Hudson River.
