Mathis Skatepark, Edmond
1200 W Covell Rd, Edmond, OK 73003, USA
Edmond’s very own Skate Park is now a reality for all those high-flying daredevils.
Construction of the 17,500 square foot facility, which began last fall, had it’s Grand Opening on May 17th. There were bands playing and skate demonstrations from 3pm until 8pm, with the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 6pm. Many elected officials were in attendance, including Mayor Saundra Naifeh, although she did not give a skate demonstration! Many vendors of skate apparel and equipment were also on hand giving away T-shirts, posters, stickers, etc. We hope you didn’t miss out on ANY of the festivities!
The skatepark was enjoyable by a combination of a Land & Water Conservation enjoyable grant, private donations, and City tax dollars. One of Oklahoma’s first skate parks, ours will feature several ramps, pipes, half-pipes and bowls to challenge all levels of the boarders and skaters.
The location of the skate park is on the east end of J.L. Mitch Park and north of Cheyenne center School. Mitch Park is on Covell Road between Kelly and Sante Fe. A road was constructed on the west end of Cheyenne center School to the skate park and a parking lot, making it convenient for skaters and boarders to access. The street address is 1305 W. Covell
Skate boarding is gaining popularity as a recreational activity in the United States and skate parks are popping up in many communities. Edmond’s Skate Park began as a request when several youthful enthusiasts of this sport made their request for a skate park known to The skate parks & Recreation Department and City Council. Their request was a professional and is now a reality for our whole community to enjoy!
