Anaheim West Skatepark, spanning 10,000 square feet and designed by Purkiss Rose in 2002, is a local favorite situated in Brookhurst Park at 2271 W. Crescent Avenue. The park's location holds historical significance, as it was once the site of the Sadlands, a renowned unofficial skateboarding spot built in the 1960s, frequented even by skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.
Originally designed to mimic the surface of the moon and its craters, the skatepark has undergone a redesign with skateboarders in mind. While retaining the charm of the old craters, the updated features now include stairs, ledges, and rails. Among its attractions, the park boasts a six-foot-deep pool and a smooth street course, providing skaters with diverse elements to explore.
The park is open for skating from 10 a.m. to dusk and is free to use, contributing to its popularity among the local skateboarding community. However, skaters are required to wear helmets, and the use of protective pads is mandatory. The skatepark features various elements, including a bowl/pool, flat rail, hubba, kink rail, grind box/ledge, mini ramp, stairset, and volcano, ensuring an engaging and dynamic experience for skaters of different skill levels.
