Top Rated Joshua M. — San Jose, California

I started skateboarding on a plastic skateboard around 1983 and shortly after began my journey into the world of skateboarding when I got my first used pro deck (Mark "Gator" Rogowski). I quickly learned the difference between commercial and professional skateboard parts so I was well known as it was still the early stages of professional skateboarding. I was mostly a street skater which consisted of anything you could think of that was in the city. My experience started with streets, launch ramps, pools, and mini-ramps, and eventually, skateparks became more accessible. Over the years I have skated in amateur CASL contests, became friends and skated with pros, was filmed and filmed other skaters for video parts, skated in different countries, had a photo session with Thrasher Magazine photographer Joel Cherry, and was current with new tricks, made my own skateboard design for Basic Skateboards (which became their #1 selling deck), had many sponsors like Fat Albert Clothing, local skate shops, Zorlak, Basic, Venture Trucks, etc... I teach skateboarding to people of all ages as a courtesy when I am out and someone needs help to learn. I am a teacher by nature which includes subjects: Math, Special Needs Classroom Assistant, Robotic Engineering, Language Arts, Chess, and more. I have been skateboarding for over 30 years, so with my passion to teach and skate I will get the job done with some fun and with precision.

Top Rated Charlotte C. — Mountain View, California

Hello! My name is Charlotte Cuevas and I have been skating for 5 consecutive years. Skateboarding has always been my go-to hobby and coping mechanism as an outlet for when things get rough. Not only has it provided me with a healthy and outdoorsy activity, but it has taught me patience, resilience, and visualization. I have taught many local people how to skate and love giving tips to anyone that I see struggling at my local park (Rengstorff). I have two younger nephews so I know all about patience and understanding when it comes to teaching younger skaters. I try to understand the learning styles of my students so that I can try to explain things in a way that will seem logical and fun for their best understanding. I would try my best to relate to my students as I am quite friendly and love to crack people up! I could also teach them about the creative aspect of skating, such as the customization that goes into the skateboard and gear itself. I have experience both in basic and some advanced tricks. I love watching skating videos with my friends and I love Deathwish, Toy machine, Bronson Speed Co, and Creature skateboards I have a wide knowledge of skateboard parts and their setup. I currently ride a 6.5 Welcome board, Clear MOB grip, Bronson G3 Pro bearings, and 56 mm spitfire conical fulls, I skate all the time and the pandemic hasn't affected me much since I often skate by myself in secluded areas so as to not bother or disturb people, plus I wear a mask and sanitize my hands habitually. I like visiting different parks throughout the Bay Area and am open to teaching virtually anywhere that's in the area. I am looking forward to teaching as many people as I can about my passion and to join this wonderful community!

Veteran Instructor Jose Manny G. — Los Gatos, California

I've been skateboarding for about 11 years now and it has been extremely beneficial for my mental and physical health. Skateboarding has helped me with anxiety and taught me patience when I needed it most. It is one of my passions and I am grateful to be able to share my experience and knowledge of it with others so they too can experience the beauty of it. I have and still do teach my younger cousins and nephew skateboarding. I enjoy watching their progression it's exciting to see how quickly they catch on. Also, it's nice seeing them having fun outside instead of being glued to a screen watching TikTok sure it's a lot more rewarding for them. I have lots of patience and love for learning as well as skateboarding I understand the difficulty that's involved and the frustration it can cause but I am ready and willing to help every step of the way so many more people can enjoy this beautiful sport.

Veteran Instructor Estevan M. — San Jose, California

I've been skating for 7 years and have always been teaching myself, then I thought, what if I had the chance to teach the youth how to do what I love the most?! I'll take that risk and apply for it immediately. If they enjoy it as much as I do it shouldn't be any kind of problem getting along and teaching them.
