dc is a cross-platform reverse-polish desk calculator which supports arbitrary-precision arithmetic. It is one of the oldest Unix utilities, predating even the invention of the C programming language; like other utilities of that vintage, it has a powerful set of features but an extremely terse syntax. Traditionally, the more user-friendly (with its infix notation) bc calculator program was implemented on top of dc, although more modern implementations are related in the opposite fashion: dc uses bc’s library for arithmetic.
This article provides some examples in an attempt to give a general flavour of the language; for a complete list of commands and syntax, one should consult the man page for one’s specific implementation.
To multiply four and five in dc (note that most of the whitespace is optional):
This translates into “push four and five onto the stack, then, with the multiplication operator, pop two elements from the stack, multiply them and push the result back on the stack.”…

Learn Skateboarding in a Two Week-Long Class

Skateboarding is a leisure activity, a work of art, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been shaped and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. A 2023 report by American Sports Data uncovered that there were 18.5 million skate boarders in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled who had used a skateboard in the last year were under the age of 18, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have doubled since then. In the coming years the physical locations of skate parks tripled making skateboarding more accessible as publicly and privately owned skate parks and indoor skate parks are becoming a reality.

The most significant change has been the developed generation that skateboarded in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the global mainstream of competitive sports and sees it as a participation sport for their children led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

    OUR SKATE INSTRUCTORS

    Niko D. From Alexandra

Niko is a skater in Alexandria, Virginia. He spent two summers as a skate instructor for American Inline. He taught beginners the fundamentals including safety and basic maneuvers. He also taught intermediate skaters how to turn, pump, drop in, do manuals, and do ollies. The students he taught were from ages 6 to 14 but he is open to teaching any age.

Skateboarding is his passion and he has been skating for the past six years. He is passionate about growing the skate community and is open to anyone who wishes to learn. He is able to teach any style of skateboarding the student would want to learn. Including but not limited to vert, flat-ground, and grinding.

He is an open-minded and patient instructor, who works to build not only skill and understanding but also confidence when skating. He also has a good sense of humor and works hard to make it a fun learning environment. He can be found skating in the D.C. area and is most frequently found at Wakefield in Annandale, Schuyler Skatepark in Alexandria, and Powhatan Springs in Arlington.  When he is not skating, he will be attending NOVA Community College as a Sophomore. His schedule for teaching is very flexible.  During these uncertain times, Niko will also be fully following all CDC guidelines for safety.

    Jonathan M. from Rockville, Maryland

My name is Jonathan and I’ve been skating for over 20 years. I love all styles of skateboarding and have competed in bowl and slalom contests. My journey into teaching skateboarding started when I moved from Maryland to Southern California and worked at the world-famous Vans skatepark in 2007. I also got to work with star education and was a volunteer instructor with the a.Skate Foundation (autism. Skating with kids through acceptance, therapy, and education). I learned how to skate when I was 12 years old and have loved it ever since.

To me skateboarding is more than a hobby or sport, it’s a creative outlet and a genuine art form. Over the years I’ve made some amazing friends of all ages and genders, some of which are professional skaters that have become mentors to me. My main passion in life is to share the stoke and to teach others how skateboarding can shape your life in a very positive way.
