Arnold is a suburb of Nottingham, England. It is to the north-east of the city boundary, and is in the local government district of Gedling. It has only had a market since 1968, and had a number of factories associated with the hosiery industry. The town has a population of 35,900 (2000 data).
Today Arnold forms part of Greater Nottingham lying to the north east of the city and in the local government Borough of Gedling. Arnold is a mixed area containing both private and council housing. Areas within Arnold include Daybrook, Woodthorpe, Redhill and Killisick.
Arnold town centre has a diverse range of restaurants and bars and a choice of shops including big stores such as Sainsbury’s and Asda and small independent businesses.
Arnold was referred to as ‘Ernehale’ in the Domesday Book, which translates as ‘the valley of eagles’.
